Abstract: |
Effect of space radiation on the properties of methylphenyl vinyl silicone rubber (MPVQ) was studied. The results showed that with the increase of irradiation dose, the appearance color of MPVQ compound presented a change trend of white-light yellow-gray yellow, the hardness increased, and the tensile strength and tear strength curves presented an S shape. When the radiation dose was 1×106
Gy(Si),the tensile strength, elongation at break and tear strength of MPVQ compound decreased sharply by 20%,89% and 69% respectively. When the radiation dose was greater than 1×106 Gy(Si),the tensile strength and tear strength of MPVQ compound rebounded to a certain extent. As the radiation dose further increased, the tensile strength and tear strength of MPVQ compound falled back. The elongation at break always showed a downward trend.MPVQ products basically met the 15 year operational life requirment of static operation spacecraft, but in the end the elasticity and load-bearing capacity of MPVQ products were basically lost, they were prone to fragmentation under external forces.MPVQ products were not suitable for use in long-life spacecraft dynamic mechanisms exposed to space environments. |
