Abstract:
The dynamic ground response of the radial tire based on the passenger car handling stability was studied. The results showed that as the lateral acceleration of the vehicle body increased during the vehicle steering, the footprint envelope profile of the tire transitioned from an elliptical shape to a triangular shape, and when the lateral acceleration of the vehicle body reached 4.0 m·s-2 or more, the long axis length of the footprint of the tire increased, but the effective ground area decreased. The decrease of the belt total width of the tire was beneficial for improving lateral grip performance, while caused an increase of heat generation of the shoulder. The concept of the effective ground area control coefficient and weighted calculation score was proposed, which could evaluate the lateral grip performance of different design scheme tires, improve the screening efficiencies of the handling perfermance improvement schemes of the tires, and the overall planning and optimization problems of the handling performance of the vehicle and the grip performance of the tire were solved. The research results could provide reference for the collaborative improvement prefermance of the tire douring OE process.
