Abstract:
The aging mechanism of foamed ethylene-propylene-diene rubber(EPDM)under hot air, humid heat and salt spray environment was studied. The results showed that, for foamed EPDM with the saturated rubber molecular main chain structure, hot air aging, humid heat aging and salt spray aging had little damage to the rubber molecular main chain structure. The secondary crosslinking caused by hot air aging could improve the cross-linking density of foamed EPDM,and the higher the temperature was,the more intense the secondary cross-linking was. After reaching the extreme value of the cross-linking density of foamed EPDM,the cross-linking density decreased with the further extension of the aging time. Humid heat aging could accelerate the secondary cross-linking of foamed EPDM during aging process, and salt spray aging at 35 ℃ had little effect on the crosslinking density.
