Abstract: |
Methyl vinyl silicone rubber with excellent heat resistance, softness, weatherability and insulation is widely used in various fields, especially in the electrical insulation industry. Methyl vinyl silicone rubber is applied as insulated devices, such as a new kind of cable material, insulated casing, insulator umbrella skirt and so on. However, due to lack of flame resistance, methyl vinyl silicone rubber would spontaneously combust and may be converted into a flame burning in high temperature or high voltage conditions, which can cause a fire. At present, most of the halogen-based flame retardants are used to improve the flame resistance of methyl vinyl silicone rubber. In the event of the material combustion, toxic gases can be produced and harmful to human health. In this paper, the flame resistance of modified methyl vinyl silicone rubber is modified by using halogen-free composite flame retardant with modified aluminum hydroxide (m-ATH) and microcapsule red phosphorus, which is compared with the flame resistance of modified methyl vinyl silicone rubber that is modified by using composite flame retardant with m-ATH and decabromodiphenyl ethane. The effects of halogen-free composite flame retardant on the mechanical properties, electrical properties and flame resistance properties of methyl vinyl silicone rubber were studied. The results show that halogen-free composite flame retardant with m-ATH and microcapsule red phosphorus has good flame resistance synergistic effect on methyl vinyl silicone rubber. |
