Abstract: |
The effect of isoprene content on the cure characteristics and cure kinetics of butyl rubber was investigated by isothermal moving die rheometer (MDR). The results indicated that, Ghoreishy’s equation showed a very good agreement with experimental data, which could be used to describe the cure behavior of accelerated sulfur vulcanization of butyl rubber. At the fixed curing temperature, decreases in the optimum cure time and in the scorch time and an obvious improvement in cross-link density were found when the isoprene content increased. The more isoprene content, the better reversion resistance at the high temperature. The cross-link densities of IIR vulcanizates increased linearly with the sulfur content. The high isoprene concentration was beneficial for the improvement of curing efficiency of sulfur, which also yielded the increase of reaction order and the obvious decrease in activation energy. But when isoprene content increased from 5.1mol.% to 7 mol.%, the curing efficiency of sulfur didn’t increase markedly, and the activation energy of vulcanization reaction nearly kept constant. |
