Abstract:
      An EPDM/organomontmorillonite (OMMT) nano-composite was prepared with the first step melt mixing in a rheometer and the second step mixing on an open mill and by using EPDM-graft-maleic anhydride as compatibilizer.The dynamic properties of the composite were investigated.The test results showed that the melt mixing made the molecular chains of EPDM intercalate into the laminates of OMMT to increase the space between the laminates;the open mill-mixing made the space between the laminates of OMMT increase further;and after vulcanization,the laminates of OMMT were separated from each other to nano-size and uniformly dispered in EPDM matrix when compared to EPDM compound,EPDM/OMMT nano-composite featured lower tanδ,higher Tg and storage modulus,and significantly improved physical properties.
